Welcome to SCRUFF

As SCRUFF continues to safely help community cats during COVID-19, we have GREAT NEWS! SCRUFF has contracted with the Upstate Spay and Neuter Mobile Van and secured monthly Thursday clinics for September 10th, October 15th and November 19th. The mobile van will be located behind the Towne Bowling Academy Inc, 1601 Altamont Avenue, Schenectady.

If interested in making a spay or neuter appointment for a community cat, please call us at 518-526-3372.

As the Coronavirus pandemic evolves, our participating partner, the Animal Protective Foundation (APF) plans to issue guidance in the near future regarding SCRUFF weekday spay and neuter appointments. At this time they are still unavailable, and monthly spay clinics at APF are also closed. Please check back periodically for updates. In addition, please consider making a pet food donation to a local pet food pantry. Unopened and unexpired food is greatly needed at this time. You may donate to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands, or at Benson’s Pet Center (both Albany and Clifton Park locations). Thank you.

SCRUFF (Spaying Capital Region Unowned Feral Felines), is a Trap-Neuter-vaccinate-Return (TNvR) organization for feral and stray cats. Run by dedicated volunteers, SCRUFF provides low-cost spay/neuter services for this unowned population of cats.

Founded by Dr. Susan Sikule of Just Cats Veterinary Clinic, SCRUFF's mission is to work with the public to humanely reduce the population of feral and stray cats and to educate the public on ways to care for these “community” cats.

Modeling itself after the nationally acclaimed Alley Cat Allies, SCRUFF volunteers educate individuals and promote TNvR; since January 2007, we have spayed/neutered over 7,000 stray and feral cats! Through our programs and our valuable partnerships, SCRUFF's vision is a lifelong commitment to humanely reducing community cat populations throughout the Capital District Region, one cat at a time.
